Though, it isn’t until Mimi refers to him as a “beautiful blob” that the reference is made abundantly clear.

The Blob has inspired countless horror movies and was even remade in 1988 by Chuck Russell. It remains a relevant contribution to the genre, as rumors moved the internet in 2015 that there would be a remake arriving in the near future. Alastair is a relatively irrelevant attribute, with his primary character being to act as Mimi’s kindnes interest and Luke’s best friend. When he gets roped into the siblings’ undertakings with PG, he is merely an innocent bystander who gets been turned into a beings intelligence. While it can be argued the character’s transformation took inspiration from another B-movie from 1957 named The Brain From Planet Arous, Mimi’s The Blob comment solids his appearance is meant to mirror this creature in particular.
