The ideal time to visit tide kitties in San Diego is now through Feb ., so we’ve put together a leader to the best tide reserves in San Diego! Taking your kids to explore tide consortia is a magnificent acces to get outdoors and learn about sea life at the low tide( and minus ebbs) that occur during the day. Put on those ground-gripping shoes and head out to briskly navigate our rocky shorings to get close looks at crabs, ocean idols and other ocean dwellers. Point Loma Tide Pools

Come for the tide kitties, remain for the photo ops. The Point Loma tide puddles at Cabrillo National Monument surround you with breathtaking panoramas. Located on the windy ocean-side of the level, little wanderers will distinguish a large and diverse amount of sea critters in this multi-leveled tidal zone area. Docents are available to answer questions; lavatories are in the parking area. Late fall and winter are marvelous experiences to jeopardize to these tide puddles. Aging is important, so watch for the super low tide that occur during the day.

Shell Beach

Grab the gang and front down to Shell Beach during the low-toned or minus ebbs and you’re ‘shore’ to find giant sea anemones and skittering crabs. Even more, you’ll read plenty of seals here too. Too, good to know that if low tide occurs near sunset, this is the spot to be to catch a superb scene!

Swami’s State Beach

You’ll need to hike down a long set of stairs to access this beautiful beach–before finding tons of ocean critters at low tide. Look for the 45 million year-old oyster fogies in the boulders( which is called tabletop by the locals ). You’ll spot starfish and hermit crabs, ocean hares and cucumbers. Head down at minus ebb to explore! Note: there’s a small parking lot that’s free and too street parking.

Dive Rock in La Jolla

New to tide pooling? In non-Covid ages you can connect with a ecologist through the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute to search for sea life at Dike Rock, or you can explore on your own. Crouch down and be still to see scampering hermit crabs and gently touch a sticky ocean anemone. If your timing’s right and you hit the extreme low tides, you may get a glimpse of sea starrings and ocean hares ensconced in the boulders. Park near El Paseo Grand St ., then start strolling north on the coast( really past the quay ).

Know before you go: The closest bathrooms are at La Jolla Shores Beach parking lot.

False Point La Jolla

A gentle little gem in La Jolla to find sea anemones and other little humen. To get to the rocks at low tide you’ll need to go down a drench staircase. You’ll interpret monk crabs and sea anemones, ocean urchins and lobsters( if luck !). The best time to go is during a minus tide. The cliffs are slick, so retain to situate the gang in the liberty shoes to navigate this terrain.

Tourmaline Surf Park

You’ll love the fact that this small surf beach is easy to get to and has a laid back vibe. Your little ocean virtuosoes can observe charming critters from snails and idol fish to barnacles and limpets. The parking lot is a breeze to find, and there are basic beach bathrooms. Head north of the surfing place to find the ebb pools, then, stay and watch the surfers and the sunset.

Cardiff State Beach

Although a remunerate parking lot, it’s merely a few steps to this sandy shore that’s full of hoards. Seaside Beach( the Southern areas of Cardiff State Beach) is a sweet tide pool discern at low tides. So grab the stroller, bundle a lunch, rein up the dog, and soak up the sunshine while exploring the creatures this seashore discovers. This tide fund has rapid and easy access, with restrooms in the parking lot. Bring cash for the parking fee.

Carlsbad Tide Pools

Park along Pacific Coast Highway( simply South of Cannon Rd .) and find the stairs past the last house. Go down the stairs and top one block north on the coast and you’ll find this conceal masterpiece of a tide pond( exclusively viewable at extreme low tides ). Free to park , no restrooms, but merit the trip-up to find consignments of hermit crabs, ocean anemones, and other critters skittering around in the water.
