By the time Ons Jabeur had finished her rhapsodic three-set win over the world No 3, Karolina Pliskova, in Doha at the end of February, the crowd had ascended to a government of sheer delirium. It was the best win of her vocation and, for the gathering, a mixture of proud Tunisians and other Arab tribes sowed around Doha, it was a rare sight of one of their own thriving in this alien sport. And so they sung her mentioned before, during and after levels, applauding endlessly into the night.
