1962 Taiwan, during the time of the White Terror. Martial law is in full force across the country. In a hour of extreme censorship, all doctrines considered to be dissident are restricted, and the villains are tortured or executed.

Tsuihua Secondary School is not an exception from this oppression. Despite close surveillance by the military police, Professor Chang( Fu Meng-Po) rolls an underground literary society where he and his students understanding of restricted bibles and dream of freedom. One of his organization members, Fang( Gingle Wang, in a Golden Horse-nominated performance) is passionately in love with him. The generally reticent youthful girlfriend from an abusive dwelling manages to open up like a volume in his presence.

But then, Chang disappears…

One darknes, Fang wakes up at her table, the school around her changed and perverted. As she walks through the ominous passageways and dilapidated apartments in search of her professor, she gratifies Wei( Tse Jing-Hua ). Together, they must confront the phantoms and villains that have taken under their alma mater in order to find out what has happened there.

The cinema is directed and co-written by John Chu and suns Gingle Wang, Fu Meng-po, Tseng Ching-hua, Cecilia Choi, and Hung Chang Chu.

Detention arrives in US theaters and on VOD on October 8, 2021.
