Carol Danvers doesn’t have a affection those who are interested in Captain Marvel, a welcome preference considering the number of superhero movies with paper-thin romantic subplots.( Rachel McAdams in Doctor Strange, we just knew ye .) Instead, the great love story of Captain Marvel is Carol’s friendship with her Air Force buddy Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch.
At a recent press conference, Brie Larson talked up the “tight-knit bond” between Carol and Maria. The two references went through military training together and were the only two women in their group, but Larson thinks they would have become acquaintances even without that suffer.” This is the love of the movie ,” she said.
” This is the great kindnes. This is the love lost, this is the love met again, this is the reason to continue combat-ready and to go to the ends of the Earth for the person that you love. And it’s her most special friend and her best friend’s daughter which, to me, is so natural .”
( The daughter is, of course, Monica Rambeau, who presumably grows up to be the superhero known as Photon, Pulsar and Captain Marvel in the comics .)
It sounds like Carol and Maria are Captain Marvel’s form of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, one of the most compelling relationships in the Marvel franchise. Not simply are they most special friend, but like Steve and Bucky, they’re likewise tragically separated by occasion. The trailers suggest that while Carol Danvers starts off as an Air Force pilot, she becomes a superhero on another planet and loses her recalls of Earth. Maria Rambeau may be her feeling connection to home, which is doubly plotting when you consider the determining of Carol’s next movie, Avengers: Endgame. While Captain Marvel makes lieu in the’ 90 s, Endgame is set in the present era, so we may find Carol reconnect with an elderly edition of Maria.
Female relationships are not exactly a following theme in superhero movies. It’s exciting to see Captain Marvel positioned Carol and Maria’s bond at the crux of the cinema, and we look forward to fans naturally carrying them together.
