Sam Mendes’s first world war film , not widely tipped ahead, is a laudable win for its immersive boldnes and technical brilliance

The Golden Globes were seeing the familiar series of safe commercial-grade bets, of course, but there were some great movies being distinguished, extremely, and this was a remarkable succes for Sam Mendes with the success of his first world war movie 1917, acquiring best theatre and best director for Mendes- a succes that must have brought back delightful recollections of these same victories 20 times before at the Globes for Mendes’s feature film debut American Beauty.
