The striking plot of one of Agatha Christie’s best-known riddles, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, startles each new generation of books. But now there is a further twist in the falsehood. Fresh sign advocates Christie may have taken the idea from an acclaimed Norwegian author.
Lucy Moffatt, a British translator living in Norway, has spotcheck a likely generator for the prominent solution to the murder in an early English store translation of Stein Riverton’s tale Jernvognen( The Iron Chariot ).
