The Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman said James Gunn’s dialogue had him tittering out loud. Following the disappointing critical reception to 2016 ‘s Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. sought to make the quality in a brand-new direction. This led them to Gunn, who at the time had been fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While Gunn has since been rehabilitated as the director of that Marvel film, much of his time recently has been devoted to writing and directingThe Suicide Squad, which is slated for release in August 2021. For the best part, he’s impeded many details about the project a secret.

There’s been much distraction over whether The Suicide Squad is a sequel to the 2016 movie or if it is a reboot. Producer Peter Safran formerly described it as a “total reboot, ” but the presence of certain courages seems to say the opposite. The Suicide Squad will feature representations from the first film, like Harley Quinn( Margot Robbie ), Captain Boomerang( Jai Courtney ), and Amanda Waller( Viola Davis ). Kinnaman will too be on hand to reprise his Rick Flag, the leader of Task Force X.

Kinnaman recently sat down with CBR to talk about his new cinema The Secret We Keep, though dialogue briefly strayed to The Suicide Squad. The performer was quick to heap homage on Gunn and the cinema itself, announcing it an “incredible experience.” In particular, Kinnaman conveyed feeling for Gunn’s vision of the film. “And when I got the script sent to me, it’s so funny, ” he said. “Like every page fixed me laugh. I was sitting at home reading it laughing out loud.”

Kinnaman previously inkling The Suicide Squad would be very comedic, and that certainly descends in line with Gunn’s other comic book cinemas. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are often considered some of the funniest ones in the MCU, and it’s clear Gunn has brought that sensibility into this DC project. The first Suicide Squad struggled to find the remaining balance between laughter and darkness, so hopefully this reboot/ sequel will amble that tightrope a little better.

Plot specifics for The Suicide Squad are still being kept under wraps, but Gunn was able to show some provoking behind the scenes footage last-place month at DC FanDome. Additionally, he lastly disclosed the( nearly) full cast of brand-new Suicide Squad people who will be involved in the film. For illustration, Idris Elba will be playing Bloodsport, and John Cena is Peacemaker. Exactly what produces the new courages along with the old-time ones remains to be determined, but Kinnaman’s Rick Flag really might find himself in charge of another motley group of villains and antiheroes. Luckily, nonetheless, it sounds like he’ll be having a lot more fun this time around.
