Sonic the Hedgehogactor Roger Craig Smith has assured fans he’s staying in the persona after rumors intimated otherwise. Smith is one of the most widely recognized articulates of Sonic, having represented the titular blue-blooded hedgehog across variou sports and more. He has also starred in several Sonic short-spokens, as well as the Sonic Boom invigorated serials, firmly cementing his mention within the Sonic fandom.

Smith’s history with the Sonic franchise is a long one, having frisked the character across several assignments dating back to 2010 ‘s Sonic Free Riders. As well as mainline games, Smith has also uttered Sonic in spin-offs, including competitions like 2018 ‘s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and multiple versions of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. He even articulated Sonic in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph. While Smith doesn’t star in the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie, he’s widely recognized as the man behind the specific characteristics, with his reputation now synonymous with the franchise.

Rumors that Smith could be leaving the role behind began when Super Monkey Ball announcer Brian Maa-Uhl referred to Smith as coming out of retirement for “one last job” during a recent YouTube Q& A( via Nintendo Life ). The mention led to speculation that Smith’s pivot on his decision to leave the Sonic role earlier this year was only a temporary one, justification the three men himself to speak out. Responding to an article on the narration, Smith told Twitter “I’m back…period”, putting to bed any surmise on his return as Sonic.

The actor and former stand-up comedian announced he was stepping away from his Sonic role earlier this year, in a move which he said was “his decision”. As expected, the story was met with an protest from love, which was potentially the reason for Smith’s pivot simply months later. Despite both Smith and Sega confirming his leaving from the persona in January, the actor took to Twitter in May to announce he would once again be stepping into Sonic’s beings blood-red shoes. Supporters were overjoyed with the advertisement, including Ben Schwartz, who frisks Sonic in the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie. Schwartz replied to Smith’s Twitter announcement, saying he “can’t wait” as Smith returns to the Sonic role.

Schwartz’ reply and Smith’s confirmation securely put to bed any rumors that the movie’s cast would be replacing the Sonic game actors. For now, it seems that the movies, registers, and competitions will continue to exist independently in terms of casting. The Sonic the Hedgehog movie was a resounding success when it was released in 2020, despite initial concerns over Sonic’s appearance. The movie, which starrings James Marsden, Jim Carrey, and Tika Sumpter is now getting a sequel. While the world pandemic has contributing factors for product, the movie has an official release date of April 8, 2022, and seems right on track for secrete. As confirmed by director Jeff Fowler, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie has finished filming, with make wrapping up in Hawaii following a stint in Vancouver.
