You don’t need to watch Clone Wars before the beginning of The Bad Batch, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be beneficial to check out some bouts. The first new Star Wars TV see to liberate since The Mandalorian premiered in 2019, Star Wars: The Bad Batch follows groupings of clones who call themselves the Bad Batch, though they are officially known as Clone Force 99. Throughout the line, they will be grappling with life following the conclusion of the Clone Wars, the dissolution of the Galactic Republic, and the stop of the clone program.

Everything from the characters to the storyline, to the animation itself, The Bad Batch is clearly a spiritual heir – if not an outright sequel – to Clone Wars, which wrapped up its final season in 2020. Given that Clone Force 99 is made up of clone troopers who firstly is indicated in the Clone Wars animated lines, it only does gumption for spectators to wonder whether or not they have to watch the previous line in order to understand and experience the new show.

Since there’s a natural throughline between Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, it would be good to watch Clone Wars first, but it’s not required at all. As with numerous sequel, spinoff, and prequel pictures, The Bad Batch should be adequately explained in the show’s premiere – or at least over the course of the first few episodes. Furthermore, the Bad Batch themselves only appear in a handful of escapades in Clone Wars, and they weren’t the main focus in that storyline; very, those escapades were used to set up a potential spinoff, one that would include a new attribute – Echo.

It’s unnecessary to watch the part Clone Wars successions to make sense of The Bad Batch; it would be like needing to watch Clone Wars – not to mention Star Wars Rebels – in order to appreciate The Mandalorian, given that multiple reputations from both establishes make appearances in season 2. Star Wars is a big universe, and while watching all of the sees and movies can provide spectators with a richer know, doing so is not a prerequisite.

If one would want to watch some episodes of Clone Wars improve understanding of The Bad Batch, though, there are two particular storylines that would help in this regard. The Citadel story arc that clears up Clone Wars season 3, episodes 18 -2 0 showcase Echo’s “death” as well as an early illusion by Wilhuff Tarkin. Then Clone Wars season 7, episodes 1-4 interpose the Bad Batch, bring back Echo, and send them off on their practice. They don’t reappear in Clone Wars, so what happened to them after that, and during Order 66, should be indicates that there is Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
