Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said that even he doesn’t know whether Johnny Depp will make an appearance in Disney’s upcoming blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The as-yet-untitled sequel is currently in development at Disney, after being announced back in 2018, following the success of the fifth installment in the line, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Me Tell No Tales.

That film, performing Depp, Rush, and Plagiarist strangers Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, and Kaya Scodelario, was mauled by commentators, but obtained relative success at the Box office, gathering in a total of $794.8 million worldwide. Nonetheless, with Depp involved in several squabbles and legal agitates in the years since the last film was secreted, questions have remained about whether he would be involved this time around. The controversial virtuoso has been a mainstay of the franchise since the first movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, was released on all countries of the world in 2003.

Now, in a Zoom interview with Collider, Jerry Bruckheimer mentions for purposes of determining whether Depp would be involved in the long-gestating sequel. And the ex-serviceman farmer responded without any house asks. Bruckheimer said: “The one[ Raiders sequel] we’re developing right now, we’re not sure relatively what Johnny’s role is going to be. So, we’re going to have to see.” Those texts seem to contradict reports from 2018 that territory Disney was not interested in Depp returning.

Bruckheimer likewise revealed that the film’s script is still in the draft stage and that Disney has yet to see it. Back when it was announced in 2018, Deadpool columnists Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were attached to the project. But they left the project a year later, and writing imperatives were handed to Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott. Mazin created Chernobylfor HBO, while Elliott was the scribe for the original Pirate movie, and too did tariff on Depp vehicle The Lone Ranger.

It will be interesting to see whether Depp gets associated with the project. Bruckheimer’s criticisms make it sound as if the movie will not center on the maverick actor’s Jack Sparrow, but he also didn’t say it wouldn’t. The fifth film in the serial, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, certainly left options for the writers to use the character, as Sparrow was last seen sailing into the sunset as the rehabilitated skipper of the Black Pearl. There is also a strong suspicion that the film will be a reboot, which could see the dealership reinvigorated.

For Depp, the move would seem to make sense. He’s in the process of mending his contentious reputation, and the Pirate streak has been fertile sand for the actor, launching him as a bonafide box office star in 2003, and netting him an Oscar nomination to boot. There existed a clear desire from supporters for him to return. On the other hand, he may be hesitant to return to the role again, for nervousnes of it becoming stale( something many say already happened two films ago ).

Regardless, Bruckheimer will certainly be interested in having Depp back for Pirate of the Caribbean 6, as he is undoubtedly the face of the sequence. Whether Disney buys into the idea, and how substantial his persona will be, if he appears at all, is still uncertain at this point.
