THQ Nordic, new owneds of the beloved 2001 fantasy RPG Gothic, has secreted a playable teaser on their Steam sheet. The studio is looking to gauge the interest of participates after they play through the demo.
Gothic was originally developed and released by Piranha Bytes, based in Germany and founded in 1997. The studio was acquired by THQ Nordic in May of 2019, an Austrian publisher now most famous for the Darksiders series, which it secured earlier this year as well. THQ oversees nearly a dozen other studios, including the developer of the 2020 remake of Destroy All Humans. The upcoming potential remaking of Gothic is being developed by THQ Nordic’s Barcelona office. This won’t be the first time another studio will be making a Gothic game, either, as the fourth installment of the series and its spin off, Arcania: Gothic 4 and Arcania: Fall of Setarrif, were developed by Spellbound Entertainment and JoWooD, both of which have also recently been acquired by THQ.

According to Engadget, THQ Nordic is looking to see how followers react to a playable teaser for a remaking of the original Gothic before going all in with development. The two-hour long demo is available on THQ Nordic’s Steam page, where the description territory the project is “a potential approach for a brand-new Gothic game” and that “nothing is set in stone.” True to the original, the game will follow the same story, although it will attempt to improve on other aspects such as the duel and camera systems. Releasing a playable demo prior to a game’s release is rather unusual, the only other recent instance of which was Konami’s P.T. competition( which unsurprisingly stood for playable teaser) in 2014, a demo for the now cancelled next installment in the Silent Hills serial. P.T. itself was highly lauded by supporters regardless of the cancellation, so it has at the very least proven that participates is feasible to approachable to this sort of venture. Konami did not, nonetheless, solely ask for fan feedback for P.T ., which acquires THQ’s situation solely unique.
Considering THQ is doing a remaking of Gothic simply because of fan demand for it, it’s a delightful gesticulate that they’re opening the floor to feedback. Because of this, the( very mixed) scrutinizes on the teaser’s Steam page feel much more personal in return constructive analysi, more like a conversation than normal assess feel. It will be interesting to see how the mostly unprecedented feedback plan plays out, and whether musicians will be seeing more playable teasers and demos like P.T . in the future.
