We want to keep going for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence, but we can’t do it without funding
Just as I was about to walk on to the stage to deliver a speech at the Sydney peace prize we heard the bad news. As an Aboriginal woman, I can tell you that our community hears a good deal of bad news.
It was 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Morrison government decided the best way to honour that important day on the international calendar was to cut funding to the National Family Violence Prevention and Legal Business Forum, our national voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who are survivors of family violence. It represents 13 business across home countries. It plies a shield, a magnetism, for those who have neither.
