Starr Carter is constantly swapping between two worlds: the poorest of the poor, chiefly black, vicinity where she lives and the rich, principally grey, prep school she listens. The shaky symmetry between these macrocosms is smashed when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the mitts of a police officer. Now, facing stress from all sides of the community, Starr must find her singer and stand up for what’s right.
