Fourth time’s the appeal. Marvel has just announced a new Fantastic Four film directed by Jon Watts, who has ever directed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. It would seem that, at long last, the Four are finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Watts seems a perfect pick for the MCU’s take on the Baxter Building’s most famous occupants. Like Spider-Man, Marvel’s First Family has had a rocky history in film, with their 2005, 2007, and 2015 movies all critically gone. We won’t even mention the unreleased 1994 film.
Hopefully Watts will be able to reinvigorate Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Benn Grimm in the same way he did Peter Parker. The Fantastic Four are pre-eminent icons in Marvel’s comics, and the future prospects of them ultimately fighting alongside their longtime allies on film is exhilarating. Read more …
